What are the different types of arcade games?

There are many different types of arcade games, and you’ve probably already tried a few, whether in a restaurant, cinema or entertainment center.

Arcade games fall into four main categories: video arcade games, pinball machines, lure machines and redemption games.

ARCADE VIDEO GAMES

Many video games are available on arcades. To play them, users must use coins or tokens to start the game. Generally speaking, the game ends after a set time, or if your character dies or fails, depending on the nature of the game.

The first famous arcade video game was Computer Space, released in 1971. Other well-known arcade games include Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, Star Wars, Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat and more.

FLIPPERS

Pinball is also known as flipper. It’s a glass-covered game board on which one or more metal balls must be aimed at strategic points to score points. The player must use the pinball machines located at the bottom of the arcade to throw the balls.

There are two main aims to this type of game. The first is to achieve the highest score, while the second is to play as long as possible before the marble(s) leave the game board.

THE LINT CATCHER

This type of arcade is actually a glass box containing toys or stuffed animals. The player uses a mechanical gripper, controlled from the outside, to grab a toy or stuffed animal and drop it into the chute, where it can be retrieved.

The player has just a few seconds to maneuver and position the grabber properly before it descends and closes on whatever is beneath it. If nothing is retrieved by the pliers, the player must pay again to try his luck.

REDEMPTION GAMES

Redemption games are arcades that require a certain amount of skill on the part of the player. When a player does well in one of these games, he or she can win tickets that can then be exchanged for gifts in the establishment where he or she is located.

Arcade games of the redemption type are numerous. To name just a few, there’s mini-bowling, skee ball, mole, push-pull and many more.
